oh, the joy of the Sanyo 1 liter neuro-fuzzy rice cooker. It is now cooking steel cut oats for my tasty work at home breakfast.
(yes, yes, the zojurishi induction cooker is apparently the shit, but they only sell a gigantic 1-liter model in the states and the thing costs too much.)
